Rodríguez: “Florida’s Attorney General is supposed to be the People’s Lawyer, not running a concierge service for campaign donors.”
Miami, FL - In case you missed it, the Tampa Bay Times reported that Attorney General James Uthmeier has used his office to intervene in legal matters involving campaign donors, raising serious questions about who Uthmeier is really using the Attorney General’s office to serve: powerful political supporters or the people of Florida.
In response, José Javier Rodríguez, Democratic nominee for Florida Attorney General, released the following statement:
“Florida’s Attorney General is supposed to be the People’s Lawyer, not running a concierge service for campaign donors. This is exactly why we have been saying James Uthmeier is the most corrupt Attorney General in Florida history: campaign checks followed by official action, favors for powerful insiders, and an office more focused on helping donors than protecting families from rising costs, scams, and fraud. This is part of the same disturbing pattern we have seen again and again, from the Hope Florida scandal to no-bid contracts and political stunts. As Attorney General, I will clean up this mess, restore integrity to the office, and make sure the law works for Florida families, not campaign donors.”
The report follows mounting scrutiny of Uthmeier’s tenure, including his central role in the Hope Florida scandal, where $10 million from a Medicaid settlement was diverted through the Hope Florida Foundation and ultimately into a political committee he controlled, along with growing questions about no-bid contracts for his Alligator Alcatraz project and political stunts that have cost taxpayers millions.
