The cumulative impact of FPL’s 2026-2029 proposal is higher guaranteed profits for the company, while electric bills for households across the state could climb by nearly $20 a month. These are new monthly costs that add up quickly for working families, seniors, and anyone living on a fixed income having to budget for groceries, medicine and gas.
Now they’re trying to push it through behind closed doors, exactly the kind of process these monopoly utilities prefer because it keeps the public in the dark. The Public Service Commission has paused the rate case proceedings – but the biggest rate hike in history affecting millions should be decided in the open, not negotiated in backrooms. All the evidence should be made public so the public can understand clearly and precisely what we are being forced to pay and why.
For too many Floridians, higher utility bills aren’t an inconvenience - they’re a breaking point.
